ABOUT US
Afriseed
Stewards Globe Ltd (trading as Afriseed) is a leading, woman-led Zambian seed company established in 2007 and headquartered in Lusaka. Fully owned by Zambian nationals, Afriseed is dedicated to improving smallholder farmer productivity, food and nutrition security, and rural incomes through the production and delivery of high-quality, nutrient-dense, climate-smart seed.
With over 14 years of industry experience and a workforce of more than 100 employees, 52% youth and 36% women, Afriseed offers a broad portfolio of improved seed varieties. These include hybrid and OPV maize, soybean, beans, cowpea, sorghum, groundnut, rice, and vegetables, with a strong focus on bio-fortified crops such as Vitamin A maize and iron-rich beans.
Afriseed operates a robust outgrower network of over 2,300 smallholder seed growers, supplying them with inputs, agronomic training, and guaranteed markets. Seed is processed and packaged at a modern facility in Lusaka and distributed nationwide through a network of more than 120 agro-dealers, ensuring reliable access across all ten provinces of Zambia.
Our operations
The company serves smallholder, emerging, and commercial farmers, as well as agro-dealers, cooperatives, NGOs, and government input programmes. Regionally, Afriseed is active across COMESA and SADC, exporting to Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Tanzania. To strengthen regional expansion, Afriseed established a dedicated business unit in Tanzania in 2023.
Recognized among the Top 25 seed companies in Eastern and Southern Africa by the Access to Seeds Index, Afriseed partners with globally respected institutions including CIMMYT, AECF, AGRA, and the FAO. Over the past decade, the company has grown from a micro enterprise with fewer than 10 employees to a large enterprise with over 100 staff, expanded from a single-country focus to regional market access, and increased its farmer reach from under 50,000 to more than 200,000 smallholders. This progress reflects Afriseed’s sustained growth, strong farmer impact, and expanding regional footprint.
Afriseed’s purpose is to strengthen food and income security by building sustainable seed systems, fostering inclusive value chains, and expanding access to climate-resilient technologies. Through this commitment, Afriseed continues to position itself as a trusted partner and a catalyst for agricultural transformation in Zambia and the wider region.
